On 29 October 2024, CO Goubing in Sierre, in collaboration with SATW, organised a day dedicated to the discovery of science and technology as part of the TecDay programme. This second event in an orientation school in Switzerland allowed 250 students aged 12 to 15 to participate in immersive, creative and above all exciting workshops. The pupils had the opportunity to immerse themselves in various disciplines: Maths, IT, Science and Technology (STEM). What was the aim? To break down stereotypes and prove that these fields are not just reserved for "mathematicians" or "geeks". The students were able to choose from around 20 modules that offered concrete experience, practice and exchange.
This year's highlights included talks by inspiring personalities such as Eleonore Poli, an analogue astronaut at CSEM, who captured the youngsters' attention with her talk on the challenges of space missions, and Filipe Curado from Scan-3D Sàrl, who introduced the participants to 3D scanning techniques. The enthusiasm of the young people to discover the concrete applications of these modern technologies showed how relevant these workshops are to awakening careers.
TecDay was also supported by numerous local and regional partners, including the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the Ecole Professionnelle Technique et des Métiers and several Valais companies. This presence reinforces the value of TecDay for students by giving them a realistic insight into the scientific and technical professions in their region.
