Although additive manufacturing holds out the prospect of design freedom, it nevertheless requires complex machinery and strong specialist knowledge. This generally makes research projects in the field expensive and elaborate. The SATW Additive Manufacturing Expert Group regularly discusses current research projects in the field. This ensures better use of research infrastructure capacity and improves the efficacy of knowledge sharing in material and process development.
