Dr Ulrich Claessen, President of the SATW Industrial Advisory Board (IAR) and member of the Board, draws a positive first annual balance of the new committee in the Bulletin of the Swiss Physical Society No. 72. The Industrial Advisory Board is committed to optimising the exchange of knowledge between the SATW member societies and brings together representatives of the public Swiss research network and the Swiss industry. The Industry Advisory Board thus complements the SATW Scientific Advisory Board.

In its first year, the Industry Advisory Board worked on three key areas:

  1. The IAB emphasised the importance of the SATW Technology Outlook and called for greater consideration to be given to the needs of SMEs with limited research and development opportunities.

  2. It categorised the importance of various research technologies for industry, including in the areas of artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, manufacturing technologies, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, semiconductor procurement and sustainability.

  3. It created an understanding among industry representatives for the concentrated expertise of the domestic research landscape. Swiss companies often have access to leading international institutions. However, there are many other cooperation opportunities for value creation and growth that the IAB supports.
