SATW promotes world-class motorsport

The AMZ Racing team - short for Akademischer Motorsportverein Zürich - has been developing electric racing cars at the highest technical level for over a decade. Today, it is one of the world leaders in student motorsport thanks to international successes: in 2023, AMZ Racing broke the world record with its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. These top performances are made possible thanks to a wide range of support, including from the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences SATW.

Top performance in numerous disciplines

Despite technical setbacks in individual races - such as a failure during the endurance event in Austria - the team achieved remarkable results in the Formula Student, an international design competition for student teams. This competition not only assesses the driving skills of the teams, but also their technical and economic expertise. The teams collected points in up to eleven sub-disciplines - including acceleration, engineering design, business plan and autonomous driving.

AMZ Racing achieved numerous podium finishes last season. At the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the team achieved five top three finishes in eight disciplines and won the acceleration classification. In Hungary, the team even achieved a historic double victory with the "Dufour" electric vehicle: AMZ Racing took overall victory in both the category with driver:in and the autonomous competition - a first in the history of Formula Student.

Top performance in student engineering

AMZ Racing's successes last season are an impressive example of the innovative power and team spirit of students in the technical field. The intensive teamwork, technical expertise and the ability to develop and implement solutions under real-life conditions are exemplary of practice-orientated university education at the highest level. As a reward for its exceptional performance this season, AMZ Racing is currently ranked in the top 3 of the global Formula Student rankings - among several hundred teams from all continents.
